11:30 on Sunday 3 April 2016 at Waterstones, 71-74 North Street, Brighton BN1 1ZA

Event on Waterstones Brighton website

The long awaited biography of Doreen Valiente by Philip Heselton is now available and Philip will be signing copies in the Brighton Clock Tower branch of Waterstones on Sunday morning, as part of the opening celebrations for the exhibition in Brighton:

FOLKLORE, MAGIC AND MYSTERIES: MODERN WITCHCRAFT AND FOLK CULTURE IN BRITAIN

which opens in Preston Manor on the day before the launch.

The book itself is a fascinating and compulsively readable account of Doreen's life and explorations, from her early years in Mitcham through to the Second World War, her involvement in witchcraft and with Gerald Gardner, and her later years in Brighton. Very strongly recommended.

There has been since June 2013 a blue plaque in Brighton marking where Doreen lived (by the entrance to Tyson Place from Grosvenor Street which is a turning off Edward Street - enter BN2 0JQ in Google maps)
